Account Username, password (stored encrypted), account preferences, saved addresses
Order and transaction Products ordered, order history, delivery details, invoices, credit account details where applicable

Technical IP address, browser type and version, operating system, device type, referring page, pages viewed
Marketing Your consent preferences and whether you have opened or clicked our emails

We do not knowingly collect special category data (such as health data) and ask that you don't include it in enquiries unless it's necessary — for example, an allergy relevant to a product recommendation.

How we collect it

  • Directly from you — when you create an account, place an order, request a quote, contact us, or sign up for marketing.
  • Automatically — through cookies and similar technologies when you use our websites. See the cookies section below.
  • From third parties — our payment provider confirms whether a payment succeeded; carriers give us delivery status updates.

Why we use it, and our lawful basis

Under the GDPR we must have a lawful basis for each purpose. Ours are set out below.

Purpose Lawful basis
Processing and delivering your order, and handling returns Performance of a contract
Managing your account Performance of a contract
Answering enquiries and providing support Performance of a contract, or our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries
Taking payment and preventing fraud Performance of a contract, and our legitimate interest in preventing fraud
Keeping accounting and tax records Legal obligation
Product safety and recall notices Legal obligation, and our legitimate interest in customer safety
Marketing emails to new contacts Consent
Marketing emails to existing customers about similar products Legitimate interest, under the existing-customer exemption in the Irish ePrivacy Regulations
Improving our websites and understanding how they are used Consent, through cookie preferences
Defending or bringing legal claims Legitimate interest in protecting our legal position

Where we rely on legitimate interests, we have considered whether our interest is outweighed by your rights and freedoms. You can ask us for details of that assessment, and you can object at any time.

Marketing

We only send marketing emails where you have consented, or where you have bought from us before and the message concerns similar products. Every marketing email carries a one-click unsubscribe link. You can also email privacy@advancedsafety.ie at any time and we'll remove you.

Under the Irish ePrivacy Regulations, we will not rely on the existing-customer exemption more than twelve months after your last purchase.

Unsubscribing from marketing doesn't stop service messages — order confirmations, dispatch notices, invoices and safety notices. We have to send those.

Cookies

Cookies are small text files stored on your device. We use strictly necessary cookies to make the site work — keeping you logged in, remembering your basket — and these don't require consent.

We also use analytics and marketing cookies, but only if you agree. You'll be asked when you first visit, and you can change your mind at any time through.

You can also block or delete cookies through your browser settings, though parts of the site may stop working properly if you block the necessary ones.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal data. We share it with the following categories of recipient, all bound by written agreements to process it only on our instructions and keep it secure:

Recipient Why
Our ecommerce platform provider Hosting and running the webshop
Our payment provider Taking payment securely
Delivery carriers Delivering your order
Our helpdesk provider Logging and answering support enquiries
Our email and marketing platform Sending service and marketing emails
Our accountants and auditors Financial and statutory reporting
Professional advisers and authorities Where we are legally required to disclose, or need to establish or defend legal claims

We'll tell you the names of specific providers on request.

Transfers outside the EEA

Our data is primarily held within the European Economic Area. Where a provider processes data outside the EEA, we rely on either an adequacy decision by the European Commission, or the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses together with any additional safeguards required. You can ask us for a copy of the safeguards in place.

How long we keep it

Data Retention period
Order and invoice records 6 years from the end of the relevant tax year, as required by Irish tax law
Account details While your account is active, then 2 years after your last order
Support tickets and correspondence 3 years from closure
Marketing consent records Until you withdraw consent, then a suppression record indefinitely so we don't contact you again
Website analytics 14 months

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

  • Access — get a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Rectification — have inaccurate data corrected or incomplete data completed
  • Erasure — have your data deleted, where there's no overriding reason for us to keep it
  • Restriction — ask us to limit how we use your data while a query is resolved
  • Portability — receive data you gave us in a structured, machine-readable format, or have it sent to another controller
  • Object — object to processing based on legitimate interests, and to direct marketing at any time
  • Withdraw consent — at any time, where we rely on consent. This doesn't affect processing carried out before you withdrew it

To exercise any of these, email privacy@advancedsafety.ie. We may ask you to verify your identity first. There is no charge, and we'll respond within one month. If your request is complex we may extend that by up to two further months, and we'll tell you if so.

Complaints

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Irish supervisory authority:

Data Protection Commission

Security

We maintain technical and organisational measures appropriate to the risk, including encryption in transit, access controls, and regular review of our systems. No system is completely secure, but we take this seriously and will notify you and the Data Protection Commission where a breach is likely to result in a risk to your rights.

Children

Our websites are aimed at businesses and adults. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given us their data, contact us and we'll delete it.

Automated decision-making

We do not make decisions about you based solely on automated processing that produce legal or similarly significant effects.

Other websites

Our websites link to third-party sites we don't control. This policy doesn't apply to them, and we're not responsible for their content or practices. We encourage you to read their privacy policies.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. The date at the top shows when it last changed. Where changes are significant we'll tell you by email or through a notice on our websites.
